Bronze Fluted Partitions

Preedy Glass supplied these bronze glass partitions to SB Joinery, which comprise of two panels of 4mm fluted glass, laminated using three different shades of bronze interlayers, in order to achieve the shade of bronze that the customer desired.

The number of interlayers can be increased or decreased to achieve the correct depth of colour, meaning the choices available are extensive.

Antique Wall Panelling

These beautiful mirrored wall panels were created using a variety of antique and tinted mirrors supplied by Preedy Glass. Each mirror was raked and polished to fit into the customers pre-made frames.

Preedy Glass supply a range of over 25 different antique mirrors, in addition to a mirror range comprising of low iron, acid-etched and tinted alternatives, as well as specialist products such as Spymirror.

Dance Studio

Preedy Glass templated, supplied and installed numerous grey tinted mirrors into this gym and dance studio in Manchester.

Textured Glass

Preedy Glass supplied and installed this 10mm Rivuletta glass shower screen with antique brass finishes.

Textured glass performs as a decorative feature as well as obscuring people and objects behind the glass.

It is able to be tinted, sandblasted, mirror finished or back-painted to any of our painted glass colour range, meaning the possibilities are infinite.

Re-Opening

Following the government advice, Preedy Glass were pleased to re-open their shop on Monday 15th June. We have re-opened with new safety measures in place to protect our employers and customers.

This includes our new reception screen that we have supplied and installed, various signage around the building to ensure the 2m distance is adhered to, and hand sanitizers upon entrance for our customers and employers to use.

Protective Glazing

Preedy Glass have designed a collection of glass isolation screens to assist businesses in protecting the health and wellbeing of their employees and customers. The screens are made from toughened safety glass, and can either be freestanding, allowing for easy removal once the COVID-19 crisis has passed, or mechanically fixed.

Options available are low iron glass, frosting on all or part of the surface for privacy reasons, and easy-clean coating that gives the surface of the glass antimicrobial properties that help reduce the growth of bacteria, improving hygiene. We can also include extras such as lockable access windows, holes and cut-outs for payment terminals, company branding and frosting.

There is nothing like a bit of free advertising… Preedy Glass were pleased to supply and install our Verano antique mirrors, inside the apartments at 10 Downing Street.

Thank you to our kind customer who phoned us the next morning to let us know they had spotted our van and delivery driver on the television!

Triple Laminated Floors

Preedy Glass supplied and installed these triple laminated glass floors and RAL9005 painted frames. We are able to supply both standard and fire rated floors; please get in touch for more information.

Shower Screens

Preedy Glass supplied and installed this 10mm thick glass shower screen, alongside the hinges, towel bar, support bar and channel, which were all custom powder coated to RAL9005 Matte from other finishes.

With our extensive hardware range, Preedy Glass are able to supply various fittings in several different finishes, to ensure the customer has a wide range of choice when exhibiting their designs.

Building for a Billionaire

Preedy Glass were delighted to work with Whitewaters Ltd as part of the £65million renovation of Ancaster House in Mayfair.

We supplied and installed a 33mm thick, 3.8m long, 235KG glass dividing panel that forms the near invisible barrier between the pool and spa.

This remarkable renovation was documented on Channel 4 named “Britain’s Most Expensive Home: Building for a Billionaire”.

Hardware Innovations

An increasingly popular product in the hardware industry is black shower seals, a recent innovation that give a unique and thoroughly modern edge to your bathroom interior.

Preedy Glass stock an extensive range of hardware that are available in various different finishes. Our hardware department will lend their professional support and advice on these in order to achieve your desired style.

Dance Studio

Preedy Glass supplied and installed these Verano antique mirrors for Dans London, a Latin American boutique dance and fitness studio.

These mirrors were selected by the client to enhance the finished look of their unique dance studio.

We stock over 25 different antique mirrors that are styled and coloured using a specially adapted silvering process. Every mirror is unique – not just across each range, but from product to product.

Sandblasting Machine

Preedy Glass have recently installed a brand new sandblasting machine in our factory at Park Royal.

Sandblasting is the process of firing abrasive sand under pressure at glass to roughen its surface to a translucent finish.

Any pattern, design or logo is possible, and with multiple stages of sandblasting to reach different depths, we can achieve amazing 3D effects which can be enhanced by edge-lighting the glass.

Reuse, reduce, recycle…

Recycled glass is manufactured from float glass and glass bottle waste in Bio-Glass fired ovens.

As it is a glass ceramic, it has a high degree of hardness, is scratch resistant, colourfast, translucent and resistant to temperatures between -50 and 200 degrees Celsius.

Toughened Mirror

Preedy Glass are pleased to introduce two new toughened mirrors in silver and grey.

Toughened mirrors are becoming increasingly specified due to their improved performance under thermal and physical stress. This makes them suitable for a wider range of applications and environments.

This year Preedy Glass have installed toughened mirrors in a number of domestic and commercial kitchens in London and the home counties.

What bespoke creation would you make?

Porta Pivot Systems

We are approved suppliers and installers of the multi-award winning Porta Pivot door and partition system. The doors are highly customisable, with different frames and glass colours available. There are also various patterns and pivot locations from 65mm to centre.

The Porta Pivot system can be used on both framed and frameless doors, so there is always an option to suit your requirements.

The discreet Porta Pivot fitting removes the need for a floor box, providing a much cleaner, less obtrusive finish. As you can see from the photo, the pivot blends seamlessly into modern architecture.

This is what 2019 looks like

We were delighted to be featured in Daniel Hopwood’s ‘This is what 2019 looks like’ article in the Metro, which focused on the revival of the flamboyant ’70s style. We are referenced as ‘experts’ in providing tinted glass and mirrors.

We installed the teal (cobalt) splashbacks below for Daniel’s ’70s chic style kitchen, as well as bronze tinted glass shower doors, mentioned left.

In addition to teal mirrors and bronze tinted glass, we also stock an extensive range of tinted and acid-etched products. Our most popular tinted mirror colours are peach (copper), gold (champagne), slate grey and blue.

1 Fifth Generation of Preedys

Joseph Preedy started his glass business in London in 1913. It produced lead lights, mirrors and windows, including stained glass. These adorned numerous buildings, including public houses, churches and domestic properties.

One hundred and six years later, we are now a fifth-generation family business. Gareth and Laura joined the business in 2018. Laura is now in charge of Key Accounts and Gareth is the Assistant Contracts Manager.

To Infinity and Beyond…

These infinity mirrors were created using a combination of dielectric, spy mirror and silver mirror, to our customer at Urban Visuals.

With the use of LEDs, the main tones of the artwork were recreated in the infinity mirror itself.

Our clients can achieve a range of looks and effects by experimenting with our specialist mirrors and coated products.

Printed Glass

Preedy Glass are now able to provide digitally printed glass with any image on the reverse.

UV printing is a unique, patented technology which allows high quality, direct-to-media printing on literally any surface.

Glass Floors

Preedy Glass supplied this glass floor at the Geneva Motor Show. As well as being functional and structurally strong, glass floors are very striking and bring a touch of luxury to almost any room or exterior balcony.

Inside, they maximise the light in a building by allowing it to pass through to other levels, while on the outside, they allow a clear, unobstructed view of your surroundings.

If privacy, or a non-slip surface is required, we are also able to provide bespoke sandblasted or acid-etched designs.

Fire Resistant Lenses

Last year Preedy Glass sourced and supplied these fire resistant glass lenses for filming on the final season of Game of Thrones.

In addition to our bespoke items, we supply various fire-resistant glass types and thicknesses, to withstand the spread of fire for periods of 30 to 120 minutes.

A Walk Down Memory Lane…

Our founder, Joseph Preedy, was working for Lord Portman, as an employee of T&W Ide, a famous London glass company at the time (1913).

Lord Portman asked Joseph what his dream was and Joseph replied that it was to start his own glass business.

Lord Portman generously loaned Joseph the money to follow his dream, and so J Preedy & Sons was established in 1913.

106 years later, we are still a family owned business, who draw on our many years of experience, whilst continually evolving our products and processes.

New Product – Raywall

After a high demand for a textured glass which has narrower fluting than our current products, Preedy Glass are pleased to introduce the Raywall 45 and Raywall 90, which we will be stocking in sheets of 3350 x 1850. These are new additions to our current range of textured glass, which can perform as a decorative feature, or a functional and structural building material, giving endless possibilities to the use of this material.

Select the texture you like and decide if you want the glass tinted, low-iron or sandblasted.
If it’s being used as a wall covering, you can mirror or back-paint it to any of our painted glass colour range.

Open House

Preedy Glass were part of this year’s Open House 2019 which is held on the 21st/22nd September. Members of the public came to have a tour of our working glass factory at our Park Royal premises, straight from behind the scenes they discovered how we manufacture our bespoke glass and mirrors.

The Greatest Dancer

For the BBC show ‘The Greatest Dancer’, Preedy Glass supplied, installed and de-rigged 10mm float glass with a specialist mirror film. The mirrors formed one of the studio walls for the set, which divided the studio and stage, and allowed the production company to film discreetly through the glass.

Preedy Glass understand in the TV and Film industry that sometimes items are required last minute. As everything is produced in our own London factory, urgent items can be accommodated.

In addition to mirrored film, Preedy Glass can supply and install a variety of tinted, safety and decorative films.

National Family Business Awards 2019

Preedy Glass sponsored and supplied these beautiful trophies at the National Family Business Awards in July. Thank you to Family Business Place for hosting such a wonderful evening, and congratulations to D&D Autos (pictured) who won the Manufacturing and Engineering trophy, presented by Laura Preedy.

Remember the opening of The Millenium Dome?

Preedy Glass supplied and installed the internal glass structures for the Journey Zone (Ford), and the Talk Zone (British Telecom) at the Millennium Dome, which comprised of frameless glass walls silk screen printed with a design, and connected by spider fittings.
The date of the 31st December 1999 could not be missed and it was the largest single contract the company has ever undertaken.

The Spitfire Memorial Table

Preedy Glass made this precision glass table top for a truly unique and spectacular table by designer and maker Huw Edward-Jones.

Known as ‘The Spitfire Memorial Table’ to R J Mitchell, the original designer of the Spitfire.
Manufactured from original Spitfire parts including a propeller hub and propellers which move on the table, the aluminium cowls were highly polished in silver to give a fantastic finish.

A Cracking Display

Preedy Glass recently installed this striking Sparkle Laminated Mirror on a bar front in London. We achieved this by using triple-laminated safety glass comprising of a mirror back, a cracked toughened glass middle panel and a low-iron glass protective front panel.

When combined with LED light strips, it creates a random bespoke reflective effect, which can be further customised through the use of tinted or antique mirrors.

Hardware Trends

The latest trend in ironmongery is black, and Preedy Glass are pleased to announce a new range of black hardware for use on frameless glass doors – perfect for showers, saunas and steam rooms. Available with a matt or gloss finish, they will give your enclosure a smart, sleek and minimalist look.

Bespoke Creations

Simply named The Boat, our workshop produced this bespoke sculpture for a sea-loving client. Entirely handmade using traditional glass working methods, this table centrepiece is a stunning creation. The hand-finished edges cannot be replicated, so this is a true one-off. Preedy Glass are specialists in both functional and decorative UV bonding, and we are always looking to push the boundaries to meet our clients’ requests.

What sculpture could we build for you?

A polished performance

Preedy Glass have recently had two edge polishing machines installed in their factory.

As specialists in processing thicker glass, we place great importance on the edge of the glass being a thing of beauty. The new machines have cerium oxide polishing wheels, which is similar to what jewellers use to buff up diamond rings, which enables us to supply a highly transparent edge.

The additional machine increases our capabilities and ensures we can be even more reactive to customer lead times.

We have also taken the opportunity to replace our bevelling machine this month to ensure we are at the forefront of glass processing.

Bevelling is a decorative angled bordered finish to a piece of glass or mirror which gives the finished product an opulent look, with bevel widths possible up to 50mm wide.

New Antiques

Preedy Glass supply a wide variety of antique mirrors; these are authentic reproductions of original antique mirrors; styled and coloured using a specially adapted silvering process. Our mirrors combine both form and function by incorporating abstract designs and a vast range of colours to suit even the most contemporary properties.

Preedy Glass are pleased to expand on our current ‘Venetian’ range with the additional of our new ‘Grey Venetian’, see left. This is available in both 4 & 6mm, samples are available on request.

TV Mirrors

Preedy Glass supply a coated glass product. When placed in front of a flat-screen television, this gives the illusion of a combined mirror and television screen.

When the space behind the coated glass is dark, it performs as an elegant mirror. As light from the television penetrates the coated glass, its reflective qualities are lost, giving an unrestricted view of the TV screen. This space-saving design reduces the copious amounts of floor or wall space required by today’s large-screen televisions. Housing the television behind the mirror cuts clutter and significantly improves a room’s appearance.

Material Backed

Our ‘Water’ range of aspirational interior wall and furniture cladding gives a wide spectrum of choice, including designs inspired by fine damask fabrics and many other textured materials. These wonderfully stylish room fascias create striking design statements that add warmth and boldness to any interior, thanks to their three-dimensional effects and vibrant colours. One of our most popular material-backed glass is the Mississippi, see below.

Tinted Mirrors

Mirrors can be used to create the impression of space, and to maximise light sources in commercial surroundings. Preedy Glass have an extensive range, including diffused, acid-etched, technical products such as spy mirror and tinted alternatives including blue, green, bronze, gold, grey and peach. Tinted mirrors are currently in vogue, particularly the peach tint often called Copper mirror and was used in all rooms of a recent hotel refurbishment (below).
